As a student society, we have a strong commitment to outreach work. We seek to both maintain and develop our current relationships with the local community and reach new audiences. We aim to bring space to anyone who might be interested, no matter what they do. The next decade will be an exciting time in astronomy and we would like to bring the public along for that journey.
Our members have volunteered their time at outreach events like the Annual Sidmouth Science Festival, the Institute of Physics’s (IOP) Festival of Physics and “Space Exploration: What’s Out There?” at the Norman Lockyer Observatory for British Science Week in 2022.
A society tradition and one of our most popular events is the Space Exe Conference, an annual space science conference open to the general public held at the University of Exeter. The conference features presentations from leading space science researchers in the South West and other fantastic guests. Talks from the conference can be found on our YouTube Channel.
On this page you will find details of past and future outreach events the society has been involved in. We are always looking for new opportunities, in particular working with young people to inspire them to purse STEM-related careers. If any local schools or other youth organisations would like to partner with us, please do get in touch!
